10/16-10/19 Update from Mrs. Luyt

Reading: This week we learned about evidence based terms. On Thursday, we took a Latin/Greek test. If you child received a 1, please be sure to sign and return the test so I know you have seen it. Students will receive new Latin/Greek words on 10/23/17. The next Latin/Greek test is 11/2/17. Next week, we will be introducing theme and having the students figure out the theme of read aloud books. In addition, students will be having a Spelling test on Thursday, 10/26.

Writing: We continue to practice cursive everyday. We also started researching our favorite animals, and began to write a rough draft on their opinion. Next week, students will be finishing their favorite animals opinion rough drafts and we will revise and publish the final piece.  

Grammar: This week, we learned about simple subject sand simple predicates, and reviewed nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs using a mentor sentence. Next week we will be learning about coordinating conjunctions to combine two independent clauses to create a compound sentence. We will also review subject and predicate, nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs using our new mentor sentence.

Projects: This week we began researching all about Nevada. Once the students finished learning about some key information such as major cities, rivers, land forms, and state symbols, they started coming up with their "51st state." Next week, students will continue creating the components of their state. 

Homework: Read 20 minutes everyday. Study spelling words for assessment  (assessment 10/26). Study Latin/Greek words (assessment 11/2).
