Math update with Mrs. Neal

Hello 3rd grade families,
Last week in math we began working with addition and subtraction, focusing mostly on two mental math strategies that they learned from last year, branching and arrow method. This week we will be moving on to the partial sum strategy. If the partial sum strategy is new to you, here is a video to explain this strategy:
We will be focusing only on the partial sum strategy from here on out, they will not learn the traditional algorithm until 4th grade. If you have any questions about this, feel free to ask me. The homework for this week will be:
Week of 10/16
3rd grade:
Monday- Practice math facts on IXL (any of the Fs or Js)
Tuesday- Partial sums page, back
Wednesday- IXL C.1, write out 5 problems using partial sum strategy to turn in
Thursday- IXL C.1, write out 5 problems using partial sum strategy to turn in

Thanks and have a great week!
