10/9-10/12/17

Reading: This week we learned about character traits. On Thursday, we took a spelling test. If you child received a 1, please be sure to sign and return the test so I know you have seen it. Students will receive a new spelling list on 10/16/17. The next spelling test is 10/26/17. Next week, we will be introducing evidence based terms. In addition, students will be having a Latin/Greek roots test on Thursday, 10/19.

Writing: We continue to practice cursive everyday. We also finished our rough draft and final paper of our opinion piece on ants. Next week, students will be researching their favorite animals and begin to write a rough draft.

Grammar: This week, we learned about regular and irregular verbs, superlative and comparative adjectives, and adverbs. Next week we will be learning simple subject and predicate, and reviewing nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs.

Projects: This week we worked in small groups to finish our compound machines and on Tuesday, the kids got to test them out with a raw egg. They were all very excited and it was great to see all of the ideas that they came up with as a team. Wednesday and Thursday, we started our next project, 51st State, by creating an All About Me Map. Next week, students will research all about Nevada in preparation of coming up with their own 51st state.

Homework: Read 20 minutes everyday. Study Latin/Greek words for assessment  (assessment 10/19). Study spelling list (assessment 10/26).
