Halloween Day:

The Halloween parade at 10:45 a.m. If you would like to see the parade, please go to the lunch room so there is enough room for students to walk through the halls.

Our class will also be going to the Book Fair on Tuesday afternoon. The students will be able to write down books they would like to have. I sent home a Book Fair Flyer on Thursday. The book fair is open October 30-November 2 from 7:45 a.m. - 8:45 a.m; 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.; 3:45 p.m.  - 4:30 p.m.; and Family Night on November 2 from 6-8 p.m.

We will have a class party at 2:30 p.m. You are welcome to send in a treat if you wish. We have no allergies in our class.

Reading: This week we learned about themes in books. On Thursday, we took a spelling test. If you child received a 1, please be sure to sign and return the test so I know you have seen it. Students will receive new spelling lists on 10/30/17. The next spelling test is 11/9/17. Next week, we will be reviewing character traits, point of view, context clues, plot structure, and themes. In addition, students will be having a Latin/Greek test on Thursday, 11/2.

Writing: We continue to practice cursive everyday. We also finished our favorite animals opinion writing. Next week, students will be writing an opinion piece on their own to assess their writing skills.

Grammar: This week, we learned about coordinating conjunctions, and reviewed nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, and simple subject/predicates using a mentor sentence. Next week we will be learning about subordinating conjunctions to combine one independent clause and one dependent clause to create a compound sentence. We will also review subject and predicate, nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs and coordinating conjunctions using our new mentor sentence.

Projects: This week we started coming up with their "51st state." Next week, students will continue creating the components of their state.

Homework: Read 20 minutes everyday. Study Latin/Greek words for assessment  (assessment 11/2). Study spelling words (assessment 11/9).
