Mrs. Luyt update 11/27-11/30/17

Parent/Teacher Conferences: December 8th is quickly approaching. If you need to reschedule your time for your appointment, please click on this link:  www.SignUpGenius.com/go/60B0D49A4AA2CA3FD0-mrs  If you are unable to make one of the time slots, email me ASAP at aluyt@oasisacademyfallon.us and I will try to accommodate your schedule.

Reading: This week we used evidence based terms to answer questions after reading a short passage. We also finished reassessing their reading levels. On Thursday, we took a spelling test. If you child received a 1, please be sure to sign and return the test so I know you have seen it. There will be no spelling again until after Winter Break. Next week, student will be determining the setting, conflict, main characters, theme, and solution on two books by the same author: Click, Clack, Moo Cows that Type and Giggle, Giggle, Quack.  Students will be having a Latin/Greek test on 12/07/17.

Writing: We continue to practice cursive everyday. We started to organize the personal narratives into a beginning, middle, and end and stretch out the details. We also added vivid details using effective word choices from our five senses. Next week, students will begin writing their rough drafts.

Grammar: This week, we reviewed regular and irregular verbs, and simple verb tenses. We took an assessment on verbs on Thursday. Next week, we will learn how to use commas in addresses. We will also be writing a letter to Santa to submit to the Lahontan Valley News. They will only have their first names on the letters, and we were told not all letters would be printed due to space constrictions. It should be fun to see them!

Projects: This week we continued with their "51st state." Next week, students will continue creating the components of their state. We are almost finished with this project. Stay tuned for a date and time when your child will presenting their project.

Homework: Read 20 minutes everyday.  Study Latin/Greek words for assessment  (assessment 12/7).
